Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) 2019 Protest Today Live News Updates:

More than 60 organizations have moved from ideological and religious lines to appeal for nationwide protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act from 19 December. On 19 December 1927, the martyrdom of freedom fighters Ashfaqulla Khan and Ramprasad Bismil is remembered. On this day in 1947, Mahatma Gandhi prevented 70,000 Muslims from migrating to Pakistan.

Hundreds of academics and activists of all religions have issued strong statements against the passage of the bill and many have pleaded to declare it unconstitutional as well as the Supreme Court.

Human rights activist Harsh Mander announced that he would register as a Muslim when the bill was enacted, refused to submit documents and demanded the same punishment as an unaffiliated Muslim.

In many parts of the country, people are protesting violently. Demonstrators set fire to three buses in Delhi’s Jamia Nagar area. After which the police have detained some people while charging sticks. The police also lashed out at the students of Jamia Millia Islamia University.
